The Day and Night Dress Challenge:

A few weeks ago, I received an email from Elizabeth at Elizabeth Made This.  She wanted to know if I would like to participate as a sponsor and a blogger for the Day and Night Dress Challenge this year.  I was happy to be included on her list, so I immediately said yes!

Dress are so much fun and it was a great way to start 2017 with great inspiration from other bloggers in the sewing community.

The challenge was to create two dresses, one for the day and one for the night, with the condition of being a black night dress.

So here are the details of my dresses

MY NIGHT DRESS CHALLENGE:

I decided to challenge myself to create two brand new patterns based on a simple idea:  A V-neckline.

I checked on the internet for some inspiration and I settle to this dress for the night version.

THE INSPIRATION

For the night dress I wanted a cute LBD with simple lines and a dramatic effect.  I used this Rochas Pre-fall 2016 for inspiration.

MY DRESS:

I used a textured double knit from Stylish Fabrics to create this dress.  I was a very easy make that two less than two hours from tracing to twirling 🙂

I used a size 4 to make this dress and I needed to make some alterations on the shoulders.  The bodice is lined.

MY DAY DRESS CHALLENGE:

For the Day dress, I wanted something fun, that I could use on an event.  I must admit, I do not use dresses on my daily routine, so this dress represents exactly how I would wear a Day dress on a special occasion.

THE INSPIRATION: Hmm, well ok… this was a hard one 😀

Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe and/or designer’s collection has always been a great inspiration.  Her style is chic, contemporary and effortless.  I found this picture on pinterest and the bodice lines and structure caught my attention.

MY DRESS: The challenge of this dress was to create the structured bodice with a whimsical, curvy skirt.

I drafted the pattern on size 6 and I was happy with the result.  The muslin was made in jacquard .  Then, I decided to buy these velvet fabric (they are so trendy!) in three different  colors.

I knew the skirt will have more structured than what I wanted, but hey!  the fabric colors were so pretty 🙂

I am quite happy with both results and I hope I can give them a go to the DG patterns Collection in the near future.

I hope you enjoyed this post and join us to the Day and Night dress Challenge.

Love the dresses but I love the evening dress more.

On side note, you misspelled muslin.
