Hi, Alicia from Felt With Love Designs here again!
I am continuing my circus toy theme today with the fourth set in my series of circus finger puppets.
Set one included a couple circus tents and a ticket booth. Set two contained the first few characters (ringleader, strongman, and circus girl #1) and set three made up a bunch of clowns. Be sure to check those out as well, if you missed them!
Today, I bring you another set of circus members and will continue the series soon with a few circus animals and vehicles so be sure to follow along!
And, if you are enjoying these finger puppets, don’t miss the adorable woodland creatures finger puppets we designed.
Supplies needed:
- The Pattern
- Felt (skin tone, white, black, pink, bright pink, blue, yellow, red, brown)
- Embroidery thread to match
- Scissors (these* are my favorite for cutting precisely)
- Freezer paper (optional – see my tutorial on using freezer paper to precisely cut your pattern)
To sew the daredevil:
- Cut all of the pieces from felt
- Sew the white helmet to the front body piece
- Sew the red stripe on top of the helmet
- Sew the red cannon piece onto the front body piece
- Position the blue cannon stripe slightly overlapping the top of the cannon and the bottom of the helmet, stitch in place
- Sew the blue star and triangles to the front of the cannon
- Embroider the facial features
- Match up the embellished front with the back and stitch them together, using a blanket stitch, leaving the bottom open. I also go back and stitch just the front edge of the opening with a blanket stitch to reinforce it but that is totally optional.
To sew the second circus girl:
- Cut all of the pieces from felt
- Sew the pink bodysuit to the front body piece
- Sew the hair piece to the top of the head (and slightly overlapping the bodysuit at the shoulders)
- Position the pink bow in the puppet’s hair and sew in place
- Embroider the facial features
- Match up the embellished front with the back and stitch them together, using a blanket stitch, leaving the bottom open. I also go back and stitch just the front edge of the opening with a blanket stitch to reinforce it but that is totally optional.
To sew the popcorn boy:
- Cut all of the pieces from felt
- Sew the white undershirt to the front body piece
- Sew the black suspenders (over the white shirt) and the blue shorts (positioned at the bottom) to the puppet
- Sew the popcorn piece centered, just below the curve of the collar
- Sew the red box, overlapping the popcorn
- Add the blue stripe to the front of the red box
- Sew the black box tray over the bottom of the box (the tray should cover the space between the box and the top of the shorts)
- Sew the yellow top of the hat to the puppet’s head
- Add the red brim of the hat to the bottom of the yellow hat piece
- Embroider the facial features
- Match up the embellished front with the back and stitch them together, using a blanket stitch, leaving the bottom open. I also go back and stitch just the front edge of the opening with a blanket stitch to reinforce it but that is totally optional.
I hope you enjoyed these simple finger puppets! Be sure to come back and check out the rest of the series!
