Income Report:  How to make money blogging

Hello there,Thanks for visiting us today.
This is the monthly report of my income as a full time blogger.
It has been 11 months since I started with On the Cutting Floor and it has been quite a journey.  I started generating an income (or subsidizing the main income from my family) on April 2014.
(You can see the report here)
Since that day, On the Cutting Floor has grown 10 times, both in my earnings and my page views.  I am very grateful of all your support 🙂

A year ago, i knew nothing about blogging.  Everything i learned was from three major sources:

Pinch of Yum
Moms Make Money
Sew Mccool

There was always something interesting and useful to get from them. So I appreciate their work and generosity to share so much information.

TRAFFIC:

January has reached the highest number of page views so far.  Pinterest has been one of my biggest ally during this month.

Below is the picture with the sources of traffic to the website:

As you can see, Pinterest and allfreesewing are the major contributors to the traffic spike during this month.
Funny enough, the highest number of page views are on posts that I made more than 6 months ago…and that it’s something to keep in mind.
Not necessarily something that you make recently is going to be popular and viral ”from the get go”  Sometimes it takes weeks, months or even a whole year for them to become popular. The most popular pattern during January was my Barbara Dress.  I was surprised to see it published on two major blogs:  Andreas’ Notebook and All Free Sewing.

Earnings:
Let’s talk about money now.
This are the sources of my income this month.Shareasale:  1520.00
Adsense:         466.00
Viglink:              36.00
Skimlinks:         14.61
Posts:              100.00

Total Income:  2136.00

Expenses:

Admin support/ Contributors  :       142.00
Facebook:                                            198.00
Website Maintenance:                       530.00
Sewing Machine:                                 598.00

As you can see, January has been a very expensive month.  The Facebook campaign that I have been running so far has been very successful in terms of visitors.

The contributors to On the Cutting Floor have been amazing.  I can’t thank them enough for participating in this blog and bring some incredibly creative projects to live.
Here are their blogs

Vicky Myers Creations
Felt With Love Designs
Uve de Veronica

Now, the two major expenses were unexpected:  I hired someone to help me with On the Cutting Floor to have a better performance.  I always knew that will be something necessary for the future, but not quite now.  However, I think it was time to do it, even though the cost was tough to swallow.

The second was my sewing machine.  I needed to update the loyal Brother, because it suddenly decided not to turn on again…ever.  So, that was an absolute need in order to keep running On the Cutting Floor.

Goals:

For this month I hope to see the blog having a more professional look and performing better, as well.

I would also like to post more sewing, fun projects, especially for Valentine’s, St. Patrick and Easter ( I never on time!)

I would also love to get more contributors to the blog. I truly believe that contributors bring so much to a blog with smart post and creative ways to make something beautiful.  So, if you are a sewing, crafting, diy blogger and would like to be part of On the Cutting Floor, feel free to email me with an idea 🙂

Thanks for reading this report 🙂 and see you next month.
