SEWING TUTORIAL:

How to Make a Makeup Roll

This easy, 30 minute project is an ideal scrap buster weekend sewing idea.  You will love to combine your scrap fabrics to create fun makeup rolls for yourself or your loved ones.

Plus, it is a great Christmas gift for your girlfriends 🙂

Enjoy!

MATERIALS:

1/4 YARD OF FABRIC

INNER AND OUTER FABRIC 14” X 8”

BIG POCKET: 8” 1/4 X 6”

SMALL POCKET:  5 ” 1/2 X 4”

STRAPS:  13” X 2”

COORDINATING THREAD

TWIN NEEDLE (OPTIONAL)

1/4 YARD OF LIGHT WEIGHT FUSIBLE INTERFACING

INSTRUCTIONS:

START BY FOLDING THE STRAPS IN HALF AND PRESS THEM WITH YOUR IRON TO CREATE A MIDDLE CREASE

THEN OPEN THE STRAP AND FOLD THE EDGES TO THE INSIDE OF THE STRAP.  THEN, PRESS THEM AGAIN UNTIL FLAT.

FOLD THE STRAP ONE MORE TIME TO THE MIDDLE, AS SHOWN IN THE IMAGE BELOW.

AFTER THIS, STITCH BOTH SIDES WITH A 1/8 INCH SEAM ALLOWANCE.

NOW, BRING THE INSIDE POCKETS TO THE TABLE.

DOUBLE FOLD THE SIDE SEAMS 1/4 INCH EACH TIME AND PRESS FLAT.

DOUBLE FOLD THE TOP; 1/4 FIRST AND 3/4 INCH THE SECOND TIME.  PRESS THE SEAM FLAT.

THAT WILL BE THE TOP SEAM.  STITCH IT WITH A REGULAR STITCH LENGTH AND PRESS AGAIN.

DOUBLE FOLD THE BOTTOM 1/4 INCH EACH TIME AND PRESS.

WHEN READY, PLACE THE POCKETS ON TOP OF THE MAKEUP ROLL ABOUT 3/4 INCH FROM THE EDGE.

PIN AND STITCH THEM WITH A TWIN NEEDLE, COVERING SIDES AND BOTTOM.

THEN, PLACE THE STRAPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDE SEAM.  STITCH BOTH STRAPS ON THE SAME SIDE.

AFTER THIS, PLACE THE OUTER FABRIC ON TOP OF THE INSIDE FABRIC, RIGHT SIDES FACING.

PIN BOTH FABRICS TOGETHER AND STITCH THE SIDE SEAMS, TOP AND BOTTOM.  LEAVE A 4” OPENING ON THE BOTTOM, SO YOU CAN TURN THE FABRIC TO THE RIGHT SIDE.

TURN THE FABRIC AND PRESS FLAT.

FINALLY, TOPSTITCH THE SIDES, TOP AND BOTTOM WITH A 1/8 INCH SEAM ALLOWANCE.

AND THAT IS ALL!

I HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED THIS PROJECT AND GIVE IT A TRY 🙂
