Sewing Tutorial:  How to sew a curved hem

FOR THIS PROJECT, I HAVE USED A FEW PICTURES OF THE ORIGINAL MEGAN SHIRT PDF SEWING PATTERN

1.  Hand or machine baste the hemline half the amount suggested on the sewing pattern you are using; this means that if the hemline suggested on your pattern is 1/2 inch, you should hand or machine baste 1/4 inch from the edge.

2.  Gather the basting stitch a bit, especially on the curved or rounded areas.  Depending on your project you will need to do more gathering.  Do not worry, this will not change the measurement on this area.dsc_0025

3.  Hand press and fold the hem to the inside, using the basting stitch as a guideline.  Then, press with your iron.  By doing this, the gathering will be adjusted to the curved on the hemline.

4.  Now, fold the hemline to the inside of the fabric one more time and edgestitch about 1/8 inch from the folded line.

5.  Press the hemline flat and it will be ready to roll!

And that is all for today!
