Tutorial: Flat Felled Seams

December 6, 2018 by Daniela Leave a Comment

Tutorial: Flat Felled Seams

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for stopping by at On the Cutting Floor.

Today I have made a tutorial to explain Flat Felled Seams.

Flat felled seams are the seams you will usually find in jeans and denim related products.  They are exposed seams, with two parallel lines.  They can be highlighted by using contrasting threads and make the projects fun!

How to make the Flat Felled Seams

1. Place the fabrics wrong sides together.

DSC_1234

2.  Sew along the side and leave 5/8 inch seam.DSC_1236 3.  This is how it will look like:DSC_1237 4.  Trim the excess fabric on one of the sides and leave only 1/8 inch.

I usually trim the back piece of the pattern I am working on.  Whatever you choose, remember to be consistent with the rest of the project 😉DSC_1240 5.  Press flat and overlap the widest seam to the side.DSC_1242 6.  Fold  the seam 1/8 inch  and pin along to keep in place.DSC_1247 7.  Sew a new parallel line.  I tend to follow the original seam line (where my presser foot is) and keep 1/8 inch distance from the edge.DSC_12498.  Press flat again.

And it is ready!

Thanks for reading this tutorial and please, let me know how it worked for you 😉

THE PATTERN

Pam Dress

Pam dress is a fitted, knee length dress, featuring a classic boat neckline.

This pattern was originally published in 2014, but I have decided to make some updates so it become easier than ever to make.

  • The instructions have been corrected.  The tutorial has easy to understand images with all the needed steps.
  • The dress has been graded and I have changed it to a 4 piece dress instead of 6 (the bodice and the skirt comes together now.)

Pauline Dress Pattern

December 10, 2015 by Daniela 10 Comments

Hi there!

Thanks for coming today.  This is my new creation: the Pauline Dress pattern. You must be thinking that it looks utterly familiar…
…well, yes: Pauline Dress is a winter variation of my beloved Paula Dress

After receiving comments and emails from you guys, about the chance to add some sleeves to this dress, I have decided that it will make a perfect, seasonal dress.

The Pauline Dress features the cross over top, long Sleeves and midi skirt

Good news?

IF you really love the pleated waistband (I do!) you can use it with the Pauline Dress, just be careful to use the Paula skirt as well, since the Pauline skirt pattern is slightly shorter than the Paula.

THIS PATTERN HAS BEEN SPONSORED BY PATTERNMAKER USA.
